Mexican journalist murdered

The reporter of Milenio- La Opinión journal was kidnapped and tortured before begin executed.

The journalist Eliseo Barrón Hernández was kidnapped Monday evening in the northern Mexican state of Durango and his body was found Tuesday morning floating in one of the branch line of Scramento Channel, in the surrounds of the Ejido Valle de Eureka in the nearness of Gómez Palacio municipality.

According to the first results of the necropsy the reporter pass away around midnight, after begin tormented. The General Attorney of Justice of the State of Durango, indicates that the body has signs of torture and various impact of gun shots.

The journalist covered the police source for about eleven years for Multimedios Torreón, a news organization. He was kidnapped by an armed group in his home around 20:05 hours, while he was accompanied by his wife and his two daughters of one and three years old.

According to reporter’s wife, the armed group break in with violence and went directly to Eliseo Barrón, after begin beaten he was taken away and she was threaten not to leave the house and not to follow the armed group.

The National Human Right Committee open an investigation on this crime and demanded to cease any action of intimidation towards journalist and called the authorities in charge to clarified this murder not to leave this crime unpunished.

According to data of the National Human Right Committee, between to 2000 to 2009 there have been 50 homicides of journalists, including Barrón Hernández’s. And from 2005 to 2009, this organization has documented 7 journalists disappeared.

The Federal General Attorney of Justice (PGR) has taken over the investigation. Meantime, Multimedios news organization, which owns Milenio Diario and Milenio Televisión, demands the clarification of this crime.
