The following is the first press release made by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), after the Colombia Army rescued 15 hostages on July 2nd .
About the escape of 15 prisoners of war
1. The escape of the 15 prisoners of war on July 2nd, was the direct consequence of the despicable conduct of Cesar and Enrique that betrayed their revolutionary commitments and the trustworthy we had put on them.
2. Independently of this episode, inherent of any political and military confrontation, where victory and defeat are presents, we maintain valid our policy to settle a humanitarian agreement that can accomplish an exchange and protect the civilians of the effects of the conflict. To continue on the rescues like the only means, the government will have to assume all the consequences of their reckless and venture decision.
3. The fight to free the rest of the political fighters, jailed will always be the order of the day in joint of the “farianas” unit. To all of them, we always have them in our minds and in our hearts.
4. The path to achieve the revolutionaries’ transformations, neither in any part of the world nor in any moment in history has been easy, on the contrary, our commitments grows with every new challenge or difficulty.
5. The peace that Colombia requires should be the result of agreements that benefit the majorities, it wouldn’t be the peace of sepulchers holds on corruption, state terror and disloyalty. The causes that the FARC-EP fights for are still alive, the present is the fight and the future is our.
