A 5.9 earthquake hits Mexico City

No victims and damages reported; the quake was also felt in Puebla and Michoacán

Mexico City, May 22nd 2009.-A strong earthquake hits Mexico City at 14:24 with a magnitude of 5.9. The epicenter was located in the town of Tehuacán in the state of Puebla.

Offices buildings, restaurants and schools were evacuated throughout the city. Many decided to stayed in the streets for a while in case of after shocks. The Mayor of Mexico City, Marcelo Ebrard, reported that there aren’t any victims nor damages.

Telephone lines got saturated for several minutes after the earthquake struck.

The last notorious earthquake that struck Mexico City was on April 27th during the H1N1 flu alert, with a magnitude 5.6, the epicenter was in the pacific coast, in the state of Guerrero.

The tremor was also felt throughout the state of Puebla and Michoacán; no damage and victims have been reported.
